The Hollow One

You hide behind the trees and watch the villagers gather in the square. A hunter points towards the forest with his dog. The dog barks [[Follow the hunter]] [[Watch the dog]]

You are starving. You find a deer close by. You could eat and stay hidden, or leave it and keep control. [[eat the deer]] [[Leave the deer]]

The church doors are open. Inside candles burn beside an old painting of a creature. [[Look at the painting]] [[Hide in the rafters]]

The hunter walks alone in the woods. He carries a rifle. [[Become the hunter]] [[Let him live]]

The dog sees you. it does not bark. Instead it comes closer. [[pet the dog]] [[Run away]]

You eat quickly. You feel better. But the hunger does not disappear.. [[Return to the village]]

You step away from the deer. [[Return to the village]]

The Painting shows a disturbing scary image of a hairy beast. It shows the beast destroying the village. [[Return to the village]]

The priest enters below you. He whispers, “He is here.” He spots you. He alerts the village.

You take the hunter’s form. You are now him. When you return to the village everyone believes you are him. Almost everyone. [[Enter the village as the hunter]]

You remain hidden. The hunter passes by without seeing you. [[Enter the village unseen]]

The dog is closer. You pet the dog it wags its tail. It trusts you. You can speak to the dog [[Ask about the village secret]]

You flee into the trees. Behind you, the dog barks agressivley. The sound echos. [[Return to the village]]

By midnight, the village is awake. Doors are locked. Someone has painted a warning across the square: THE MONSTER WEARS OUR FACES. [[Enter the village unseen]] [[Enter the village as the hunter]]

You are the hunter, you stand before the crowd. They trust you. You could lead them, destroy them, or tell them the truth. [[Reveal yourself]] [[Command the village]] [[Attack the village]]

You slip between houses. Inside one home, villagers argue. Some want to kill you. Some want to sacrifice someone to you. [[Reveal yourself]] [[Leave forever]]

The dog tells you the truth. The village created you to protect them from war. Then you was no longer needed you, they called you a monster. Now they fear the thing they made. [[Reveal yourself]] [[Leave forever]] [[Command the village]]

You step into the square. The villagers see the truth. Some scream. Some pray. Some recognize you. [[Spare them|Human Ending]] [[Punish them|Monster Ending]] [[Accept their worship|God Ending]]

The forest opens up. the village waits for a monster. You keep walking. [[Continue|Human Ending]]

You raise the hunter’s hand, and the village falls silent. You know their secrets. You tell them they will survive only if they obey you. [[Become their god|God Ending]]

You smile. Then you show them the teeth underneath. Now the feeding begins. [[Begin the massacre|Monster Ending]]

You stop pretending. The village screams as you move through the snow, You have become exactly what they feared. the monster wins.

You turn away from the village. You are still a monster. you choose not to become one.

You stand before the villagers. One by one, they kneel. Not because they love you. Because they need you. the monster becomes a god.
